More details on Benoit Family Death Revealed

Did Chris Benoit’s thoughts dramatically turn to religion after he killed his wife and their young son in their Fayetteville home last June?

A final report by Fayette County Sheriff’s investigators into the deaths of the Benoit family suggest that he may have.

The investigation concludes that the former pro wrestler killed his wife Nancy and their son Daniel before taking his own life, between Friday, June 22 and Sunday, June 24, 2007.

Earlier reports said that Bibles were laid out beside the bodies of Nancy and Daniel Benoit, but this report states that sometime Saturday Chris Benoit went into the office where his wife’s body was and did an internet search on the Prophet Elijah.

“Chris Benoit’s research of the Prophet Elijah may suggest his thoughts turned to religion after the death of his wife and son,” the report said.

“This may also explain why the Bibles were placed next to both bodies.”

The report also explains that in the “First Book of Kings in the Bible, Chapter 17, Elijah is sent to a widow... the son of the widow has died and Elijah takes the child from his mother and stretches out on him three times in his own bed.

“Elijah pleads to God to restore the boys soul to his body which he does and Elijah returns the boy to the widow.”

The report indicates that young Daniel Benoit was found in his bed “lying on his stomach with his left side of his head resting on his pillow.

“His body was on the top of the turned down covers.”

“On the bed next to Daniel Benoit, I observed stuffed animals and a child’s bedtime Bible,” the report states.

Nancy Benoit, the report says, was found in a bonus room.

“Her body was lying on the room’s hardwood floor... the body was covered up or wrapped in a dark colored saddle style throw...”

“A Bible was lying next to Nancy Benoit’s head...” the report indicated.

The report states the web search for Prophet Elijah took place Saturday, June 23, apparently the same day Daniel Benoit was killed.

The report also confirms earlier reports from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department that Chris Benoit killed his wife, Nancy, sometime Friday night (June 22), his son Saturday, and then killed himself sometime early Sunday (June 24)

According to the report, there is “no clear reason why Daniel was killed.”

As for Nancy, the report states that “during their marriage, there was a combination of issues that led to stress and arguments between the couple.”

Also, the investigation points to “what appeared the be prolonged prescription medication use on the part of Chris and Nancy Benoit, and apparent changes in Chris Benoit’s brain “because of past injuries (concussions) and the possible effects of long term steroid use.”

“If research is correct, these separate issues may have caused or added to behavioral changes in Chris Benoit, which led to distant and/or aggressive behavior,” the report says.

The report also points out that “some type of violence occurred just before Nancy Benoit’s death.”

It also states that “there was no evidence that a third party was present in the Benoit home.”
