Rey Mysterio Suffer Major Injury, To Miss Wrestlemania?

Rey Mysterio suffered an apparent biceps injury at last night's SmackDown/ECW brand house show in Santiago, Chile. He is returning to the states to be medically evaluated. Mysterio is scheduled to wrestle Edge for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship this Sunday at No Way Out. If the injury is serious, Mysterio will be out for up to 4 months and miss this Sunday No Way Out and Wrestlemania

Here is WWE.com's statement regarding Mysterio's sudden injury:

Rey Mysterio injured during South American tour
Written: February 14, 2008

Rey Mysterio’s quest to regain the World Championship may have suffered a severe setback in Santiago, Chile, on Wednesday night.

The injury occurred during Wednesday’s live event at Arena Santiago, where Mysterio teamed with Kane against Zack Ryder & Curt Hawkins. During the tag contest, Rey suffered an apparent injury to his right arm – specifically his bicep. Clearly in pain, the Master of the 619 gutted it out and finished the match, then was quickly examined by WWE athletic trainer Jason Crivello upon leaving the ring.

Mysterio flew back to the United States late Wednesday night, and is currently in Gulf Breeze, Fla., waiting to meet with world-renowned surgeon Dr. James Andrews, who will determine the extent of the injury. Regardless of Dr. Andrews’ findings, Mysterio has his heart set on competing this Sunday night at No Way Out, where he is scheduled to face Edge for the World Championship.

Stay tuned as more updates become available regarding Mysterio’s condition.

Stephanie McMahon Trying To Stop Internal Leaks

After the holidays, Stephanie McMahon reviewed all cell phone records from the creative team specifically looking for anyone who might have leaked company news. She did not find any evidence from anyone.

She also did this a few years ago in a failed attempt to get her father to get rid of Paul Heyman, who she often butted heads with. After her most recent review of cell phone records, Stephanie lectured the creative team on leaking confidential information to people outside of the company.

Additionally, the McMahons conduct checks their writers' computers to see if they have any e-mail contact with people outside of WWE.

The creative team is said to be really paranoid around Stephanie McMahon because it's difficult for WWE to keep most of their storyline plans quiet, a rare exception being John Cena's surprise return at the Royal Rumble. Basically, everytime major storyline plans get out, Stephanie gets upset and starts looking for answers.

This past fall, WWE pulled "Rowdy" Roddy Piper from making an appearance as a special guest referee at Cyber Sunday due to a fan's Internet report on meeting Piper at a G.I. Joe convention.

At the convention, the fan reported that Piper said that he was going to be at Cyber Sunday, which was before WWE started promoting it on television.

The news greatly upset Vince McMahon because he believed that Piper was leaking storyline plans. However, it should be noted that a few weeks earlier, promotional commercials advertising Piper's appearance aired in certain markets, most notably Canada.

With the McMahons looking over everything they do, one member of creative recently bought a new cell phone for all of his non-business calls because he doesn't want them checking his personal phone calls, and he's someone that doesn't speak to anyone about the wrestling business to the outside world.

Shawn Michaels On Using The Crossface, Benoit Removed From DVD, New WWE CD

If you recall, at the Survivor Series, Shawn Michaels wasn't allowed to use the Superkick in his championship match with Randy Orton. Instead, he used a few submission holds including the Sharpshooter and the ("Crippler") Crossface.

The 2008 Spring Preview issue of WWE Magazine that hit newsstands this past week asks him about it in an interview. Here is what he said:

In your match at Survivor Series 2007 against Randy Orton, you used several submission holds, including the Sharpshooter. Were you trying to send a message to someone?

When the Superkick was banned in the match I thought I'd change my whole strategy and use submissions. I'm not really a submission guy, so I used holds that were familiar. One of those moves is the Sharpshooter. People might think I was taking a stab at Bret Hart, but I wasn't. As for the Crossface... I'll just say that I am the guy who has got to be the first one to do stuff, to let people know it's OK. Did I worry about taking heat? I've never been afraid of the heat.

-- WWE released a compilation DVD on "Stone Cold" Steve Austin this week and it features the match between him and Triple H at Survivor Series 2000. Chris Benoit played a role in getting the action from inside of the arena to the parking lot. When these segments occur, the Survivor Series logo is suddenly shown and the match skips to the part without Benoit. This happens twice during the match on the DVD.

WWE will be releasing a new theme song album entitled WWE: The Music Vol. 8 on Tuesday, March 25. Unlike last year, this will be an actual CD release and it won't just be available through iTunes. Themes featured in the CD include Candice Michelle, John Morrison, Kofi Kingston, Shelton Benjamin, Mr. Kennedy, Jeff Hardy and Chris Jericho, among others.

WWE Plans And Concern For FCW

Regarding the OVW and WWE split, a lot of people in the company believe John Lauranitis was one of the main ones pushing for the two to severe ties. Lauranitis lives in Florida and wanted WWE's developmental territory to be only in Florida because it has its perks for him.

- WWE currently has 35 wrestlers signed to developmental deals. The plan is to increase that number to 70 within the next few months. WWE is expected to go on a big hiring spree right after WrestleMania 24.

- All eyes are now on Steve Keirn and WWE's developmental territory in Florida. Seeing as how WWE sent out a press release touting FCW as their next big thing, there is little room for error this early in. The biggest concern people have about the developmental system in Florida is that Keirn, who is currently a WWE agent, is very good at structuring women's and tag team matches, but is a poor promo coach and has no experience at all promoting shows, let alone managing an entire developmental territory. Keirn has some people to help him, but given the size of this operation it's not nearly enough. Vince McMahon, who has a notoriously short attention span, has threatened to pull the entire developmental operations in the past.

TNA Considering OVW, WWE Fans Unhappy, Hogan Divorce Case Update

Nothing has been confirmed from either side at this point, but some people within TNA feel it would be a good move for TNA to try and start a relationship with OVW, now that WWE is out of the picture.

TNA probably doesn't have the money to start up a developmental territory right now,but feel it would be a good idea for them to invest with a group like OVW or Booker T's PWA

Fans at the SmackDown & ECW shows in Guatemala and Guadalajara were unhappy with the lack of pyro and lights for such stars as Kane. People also have been pointing out that there was more show and spectacle than actual wrestling on the shows.

Teddy Long announced in Guadalajara that WWE's RAW brand would be returning in May. The May tour is tentatively the 21st in Monterrey, the 22nd at Queretaro at the bull ring, and the 23rd and 24th at Palacio de Los Deportes in Mexico City.

The latest in the Linda/Hulk divorce trial is her claim that the National Enquirer is set to publish a story very critical of her with allegations of heavy drinking and erratic behavior, and it is her belief that her husband is the man behind it all.

They claim that Hogan is very close to the guy working on the story, and that Hulk referred to him as "my guy in the tabloids" and carries around a business card with the dude's name on it. Linda's side feels the article will be unfair and biased.

More details on Benoit Family Death Revealed

Did Chris Benoit’s thoughts dramatically turn to religion after he killed his wife and their young son in their Fayetteville home last June?

A final report by Fayette County Sheriff’s investigators into the deaths of the Benoit family suggest that he may have.

The investigation concludes that the former pro wrestler killed his wife Nancy and their son Daniel before taking his own life, between Friday, June 22 and Sunday, June 24, 2007.

Earlier reports said that Bibles were laid out beside the bodies of Nancy and Daniel Benoit, but this report states that sometime Saturday Chris Benoit went into the office where his wife’s body was and did an internet search on the Prophet Elijah.

“Chris Benoit’s research of the Prophet Elijah may suggest his thoughts turned to religion after the death of his wife and son,” the report said.

“This may also explain why the Bibles were placed next to both bodies.”

The report also explains that in the “First Book of Kings in the Bible, Chapter 17, Elijah is sent to a widow... the son of the widow has died and Elijah takes the child from his mother and stretches out on him three times in his own bed.

“Elijah pleads to God to restore the boys soul to his body which he does and Elijah returns the boy to the widow.”

The report indicates that young Daniel Benoit was found in his bed “lying on his stomach with his left side of his head resting on his pillow.

“His body was on the top of the turned down covers.”

“On the bed next to Daniel Benoit, I observed stuffed animals and a child’s bedtime Bible,” the report states.

Nancy Benoit, the report says, was found in a bonus room.

“Her body was lying on the room’s hardwood floor... the body was covered up or wrapped in a dark colored saddle style throw...”

“A Bible was lying next to Nancy Benoit’s head...” the report indicated.

The report states the web search for Prophet Elijah took place Saturday, June 23, apparently the same day Daniel Benoit was killed.

The report also confirms earlier reports from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department that Chris Benoit killed his wife, Nancy, sometime Friday night (June 22), his son Saturday, and then killed himself sometime early Sunday (June 24)

According to the report, there is “no clear reason why Daniel was killed.”

As for Nancy, the report states that “during their marriage, there was a combination of issues that led to stress and arguments between the couple.”

Also, the investigation points to “what appeared the be prolonged prescription medication use on the part of Chris and Nancy Benoit, and apparent changes in Chris Benoit’s brain “because of past injuries (concussions) and the possible effects of long term steroid use.”

“If research is correct, these separate issues may have caused or added to behavioral changes in Chris Benoit, which led to distant and/or aggressive behavior,” the report says.

The report also points out that “some type of violence occurred just before Nancy Benoit’s death.”

It also states that “there was no evidence that a third party was present in the Benoit home.”

More Details On WWE Films and Video Games Future Plans

WWE Films generated its first dollars for the company in the last quarter of 2007 with a total of $16 million in sales mainly from the Kane movie 'See No Evil'. While 'The Marine' with John Cena was way more popular than Kane's, revenue from that movie will most probably be recorded in the first quarter of 2008. 'The Condemned' with Steve Austin didn't break even and it's highly unlikely that the company will make any money off that movie after covering marketing and production costs.

No movies are scheduled for this year however John Cena will start working on his new movie titled '12 Rounds' in New Orleans. The movie will be released in theaters in 2009 while other projects which are being considered are all going direct to video. Direct to video movies cost much less to produce and can bring in revenue much quicker than a theatrical release unless it's a blockbuster movie that made millions in its first weekend.

With WWE dropping Jakks in 2010 there is also talk of them dropping THQ when their deal ends the same year. EA is very interested in the WWE video game license and are likely to put in a bid for it when their deal with THQ is up. The recent drop in the quality of the Smackdown vs Raw Series produced by THQ has led WWE to question THQ ability to make the best out of WWE Video games,

New WWE Theme Album Coming Out, TNA Slammiversary News, And More,

This week, Tyler Connoly, the lead singer for the rock band "Theory of a Deadman", called into the radio station 104.1 The Blaze (Lincoln, Nebraska) for an interview. and He mentioned that his band recorded a remix of Vince McMahon's "No Chance in Hell" theme song. The remix will appear on an upcoming WWE theme song compilation album that will be coming out around March.

Rock band Ellure will be recording the official theme song for TNA's June PPV Slammiversary. Also Kurt Angle will be featured on the cover of their latest album.

Chyna was on the pre Grammy show last weekend and said she has plans to return to New Japan Wrestling Promotion.

Jim Ross is featured in a new interview with the Orlando Sentinel. In honor of Valentine’s Day Ross discusses several diva-related subjects and it is interesting to note that he says that the possibility of TNA having a one-hour show devoted to their Knockouts is not a “sound idea.” TNA Knockout have been among the highest rated segments in recent TNA Impact Shows.

Stone Cold Steve Austin: "Wrestlemania Appearance Still Possible"

Stone Cold Steve Austin was interviewed by the Miami Herald this week. Austin talked about his new "Legacy of Stone Cold Steve Austin" DVD, his health and his movie career.

Regarding his health, he said, "I feel real good right now. I have an active life, hunting and fishing. I'm making movies. Physically, I feel fine, and my past injuries don't effect me filming movies. I can do what I need to do in the movies, and it doesn't hold me back at all."

He also had some interesting news about the possibility of appearing at WrestleMania 24:

"There was a pitch thrown at me for WrestleMania [24 in Orlando], but I turned it down,'' he said. ``I'd like to go to the Hall of Fame and see the guys get inducted. They got enough talent in WWE that they don't need me for WrestleMania, and it's not my desire to go back into the ring."

"If I really needed the money, I'd go back in the ring, but I've been conservative with my money and invested wisely. I have fond memories of the business, and I love the business, but I don't miss it."

Austin did not totally rule out involvement in WrestleMania 24, but it is unlikely.

"I'm always interested, if they have an idea, a good idea. I love the company. It doesn't have to be grandiose.''

Kurt Angle " TNA Will Win The War Over WWE

TNA World Champion Kurt Angle had some interesting comments in a recent interview with VideoGamer.com. The website did the interview in video format, but has since posted some quotes in text format. Below are some of the quotes posted:

Regarding TNA’s videogame to WWE's videogame: "Smackdown's game is going to look like all the other games in the past. I've been there. I know how much effort they put behind it. For each wrestler they usually take about two-and-a-half minutes and that's it. They (Midway) have actually spent hours with wrestlers to make this happen with TNA Impact! You're going to see it's so much more authentic. It's a no brainer. We're going to win the war definitely."

When asked if he felt confident that fans would choose TNA’s game over WWE’s game: "No I'm not confident that will happen. I believe in the long run we will end up selling more than they will. But I believe the fans will pick Smackdown first, they will try it out and then they'll go back and they will pick TNA Impact! up and they'll try it and say "wow I shouldn't have bought Smackdown".

Perhaps his most interesting comments: "During the first week I don't think we're going to win the war. I think within a month we're going to be crushing them in the war. So it's just going to take a couple of weeks for everybody to realize that we have the better game. It's just that right now WWE is slightly beating us in the TV ratings and they are going to have the advantage because they've had experience. This is our first video game. This is big for us, this is huge. A lot of people are going to be curious but at the same time they're so used to buying WWE stuff they are probably going to do the old fashioned "let me see how Smackdown's doing" and then they'll say "let me see how Impact's doing".

Of course Angle’s claim that WWE is just “slightly” beating TNA in the TV ratings is not true at all. TNA’s ratings are not even close to the ratings of RAW or SmackDown. Ever since TNA Switched to Primetime On SpikeTV, there is a sense of a Rating War between WWE and TNA not unlike the WWF and WCW Monday Night War of the 90's.

However the general feeling among industry insiders is that while TNA has helped make the business more competitive and provide a alternative for wreslters, there are question marks over the quality of TNA product as a whole.

Potential Wrestlemania Match, Stephanie McMaho, Maria In Playboy

Vince McMahon is said to be training harder than usual, which is leading some to believe that he'll have a match at Wrestlemania. From the direction they're going on television, it appears that some sort of McMahon vs. Finlay match is in the works, but it hasn't been 100% confirmed yet. Mick Foley's name has been tossed around, but they've done nothing to indicate that he's coming back and they've been building up the feud between McMahon and Finlay for weeks.

-- With the sudden passing of Triple H's sister's husband on Monday, Stephanie McMahon missed the Raw taping as well due to the family emergency.

The Full Details On OVW Being Dropped For FCW as WWE Development League

John Laurinaitis, senior vice president of WWE talent relations, made the announcement concerning OVW on Wednesday during a visit to the Louisville-based facility where he thanked company officials for their partnership and for their role in developing current WWE stars such as John Cena, Batista and Randy Orton.

The move leaves Florida Championship Wrestling as WWE's lone official developmental territory. Current OVW developmental talent will be relocated to the Tampa area. WWE considered Florida, where many WWE performers and officials live, to be a more desirable, centrally located site for its developmental operations.

"The facility has four wrestling rings and approximately 35 contracted athletes, with plans to increase that number to more than 70 in the near future," WWE said of the Florida site in a press release. "The facility is now fully operational, as WWE undertook large-scale renovations to FCW in order to accommodate its training needs. The finished training facility is more than 10,000 square feet, including an arena that will seat nearly 300 fans. The new training facility will also host a weekly show in front of a live audience, to be broadcast for regional television."

FCW is owned and operated by former pro wrestler Steve Keirn. Tom Prichard oversees all talent training at the facility. WWE performer and longtime OVW trainer Al Snow was released.

A number of developmental workers were released by WWE in the days prior to the announcement. The list included Michael DiPaolo, the original Roadkill in ECW, who had worked most recently in OVW as Antoni Pulaski. Other OVW talent cut were Ace Steele (Chris Guy) and Cassidy James (former TNA worker Cassidy Riley). Released from FCW were Badseed Shawn Osbourne (Shawn McGrath), G-Rilla (George Murdoch) and Robert Anthony.

Reid Fliehr, 19-year-old son of Ric Flair, has signed with FCW. Dropped from the roster was third-generation hopeful Lacey Adkisson (daughter of the late Kerry Von Erich and granddaughter of the late Fritz Von Erich).

Latest On Smackdown, JR on Lashley

WWE is in negotiations to find a new television home for the brand.

Smackdown, which premiered on UPN in 1999, moved to CW in 2006 when UPN merged with the WB network. The show was consistently one of the highest-rated programs on CW.

It has been speculated that the show might end up on the USA network, home of WWE's flagship Raw show, or the Sci Fi Channel, which airs WWE's weekly ECW show. MyNetworkTV affiliates may be another potential home for the brand.

One problem with WWE's SmackDown show ending up on MyNetworkTV is that they do not broadcast in HD. The chances of SmackDown ending up on NBC seem very slim right now as NBC didn't even offer WWE a Saturday Night's Main Event slow during the Hollywood writer's strike.

Other slim chances right now for SmackDown's future home are USA Network on Friday nights and Bravo.

WWE announcer Jim Ross noted on his blog that Lashley never really embraced the business.

"Lashley is a genuine physical specimen who is supremely gifted athletically, but much like Brock Lesnar, Bobby apparently did not like the travel demands of being a pro wrestler in today's marketplace, nor do I think that Bobby ever fully understood the business of sports entertainment, which added to Lashley's consternation at times. Financially, Bobby had a superb, hell fantastic, 2007, one of the best I can ever recall for any one at his stage of the game. In my personal opinion, if a pundit speculates that Bobby did not do well or wasn't treated fairly financially, I would dispute that uninformed statement wholeheartedly."

Mick Foley Candid Interview On His Status in WWE

Mick Foley recentley sat down for a interview with the Sun. Below is a transcript of the full interview.

WHEN you look at the grapplers who revolutionised the wrestling business in the mid to late 1990s, they have taken very different paths since the end of the Attitude Era.

The Undertaker and Triple H are still at the very top and set to headline WrestleMania, Stone Cold Steve Austin comes back around once a year for a monster ovation and The Rock has left the WWE behind totally to become an A-list Hollywood star.

Of them all, only Mick Foley is happy to keep wrestling in a much more lowly role than he once enjoyed.

The three-time world champion is now happy to form a comedy tag team with Hornswoggle and get tossed out of the Royal Rumble by Triple H, the man he tore the house down with at the 2000 version of the event.

And in an exclusive Sun interview, Mick explained why he is very happy with his current role.

He told us: “Honestly the days when I really meant ratings or buy rates are over, so I am realistic in thinking that I can be an enjoyable asset to the show, but probably not a main event guy any more.

“I’m not so worried about making that major impact, as I am just being a welcome addition, and if that means showing up in a recurring role, several times a year I have no problem with that.

“Realistically Vengeance 2006 was my last time in a WWE main event.

“It was almost my last ever match too, which would have been great. Although I wasn’t great in it, it was a really good match.

“Then I got the deal with Coach and Hornswoggle and I went to thinking: “Oh no, my last match was against Coach with a leprechaun as referee.

“But the more I thought about it the more I realised how great it was to have all four of my kids in the audience for the first time and especially to have my seven-year-old booing me, which brings him a lot of happiness.

“There’s nothing quite like going out there and seeing my son giving me a big, hearty thumbs down.

“So I’ve kind of changed my idea of what makes for a great moment. It doesn’t necessarily have to involve a life or death situation.”

Mick added: “I’m convinced I have one more great moment left. Not necessarily a great match, but at least a great moment.

“One thing I have realised is that by coming back a couple of times a year is that I have remained relevant to kids who otherwise would have no idea who I was.

“I was really surprised when I did my book tour last year that so many of the fans were 10, 11, 12 years old.

“And I was especially touched by meeting a five-year-old boy in a hospital who specifically wanted a red flannel shirt.

“He’s a little boy who is deaf and in isolation for reasons I’m not privy to, and apparently when I gave this little mini red and black chequered flannel shirt it became his most prized possession.

“He knew me from the video game, so if I had retired when intended in 2000 and never set foot in the ring again a little guy like that would have no idea who I was.”

Mick was full of praise for the WWE’s new generation of stars – from John Cena to Hornswoggle – and even joked about the new way to make himself stand out in high definition.

He said: “I think characters like John Cena, especially, have done an awful lot to bring new fans in, and Hornswoggle, to me, is a great character and a great silent actor.

“During the 15th anniversary Raw I just studied him during that 20-minute segment and I think he brings a lot to what would seem to be a really limited character.

“Raw going HD doesn’t worry me. When I showed up and wrestled with Hornswoggle as my partner I was actually dressed from head to toe.

“That relieved any pressure to get any kind of tan. If everybody is tanned, then nobody really looks tanned, there’s got to be one pale guy out there to make the tans stand out and I see that as my role – the pale white guy.”

Mick’s realistic look at his current role in the WWE means he also knows his chances of a big WrestleMania pay-day are slim.

Ideas from him fighting Vince McMahon to retiring Ric Flair have been batted around, but none have come to fruition.

“I know everybody wants a shot at Mania so I always felt like Backlash was a better moment, kind of sweet being in a little more of the spotlight.

“Although, doing radio interviews, one guy in Orlando proposed a pretty good scenario for me and Umaga, maybe I’ll throw that out there, but I’m now looking more to summer 2008 to do something major.

“I heard that my name was thrown around for Flair’s final match, but I didn’t hear until after the fact. I guess it was voted down.

“I look at Flair’s career and I don’t see my name as being one of his major opponents. We had a nice little issue at SummerSlam a couple of years ago, but in Flair’s storied career I don’t think my name is thrown around.”

But who should the man Mick once blasted but then became friends with face at the Granddaddy Of Them All?

“Man, that’s a good question,” Mick replies. “Ric’s had so many opponents, but so many guys are not around any more. Maybe revisit the Triple H thing?

“It’s been said they had a chance to really make history in Greensboro, but didn’t really do it, so maybe they’ll have a chance to do it an Mania to do it the right way.

“Ten I found out the conclusion, I actually thought it made sense at the time because Regal had come out and redeemed himself in Vince’s eyes, but maybe I wasn’t looking at the bigger picture.

“But hindsight is always 20/20.

“It didn’t seem like a bad move at the time, but I think historically people would love to have seen a clean Flair victory in Greensboro.”

Mick – who is currently pitching the idea of a Christmas book to Vince – also admits that making friends in wrestling is hard, due to the hugely competitive nature of getting to the top.

“Although I’ve got my fair share of guys I keep in touch with, I’m actually good friends with a lot of the Divas, maybe because I didn’t actually wrestle with them.

“The competitive spirit does make close friendships a rarity, which is maybe why I was really good friends with Al Snow because there was no chance in the world he was ever going to take my spot.”

Foley was chatting to The Sun to promote the WWE’s latest CD WWE Raw Greatest Hits – The Music CD, and reminisced about his own tune, which features prominently.

He recalls: “I didn’t even know I was having one, until the day after I won the title from the Rock, I had this great new music.

CHART STAR ... Foley on new Raw CD

“Until then it was kind of a downer, because the Mankind character had turned into this fun guy and he had this morbid funeral dirge.

“They actually tried to brighten the funeral dirge at one point, so for a couple of months it was a little more up-tempo funeral dirge, but I was thrilled when I came out and had that ‘Wreck’ music.

“I guess it’s on the Greatest Hits CD for a reason, because people really respond to it. Great music is invaluable, because I’ll be the first to admit that no matter how little I like a few of the DX segments, the moment the music hits you know you are seeing something big.

“Randy Orton has been saddled with music that I don’t think is very good.

“But at the same time my four-year-old runs around singing “Hey, nothing I can say” so it is catchy in a weird way.

“That’s a big thing. If you have music that people can remember it can really add a couple of years to a career.”

With refreshing honesty like that we’d love to see a couple more years, and a couple more books, out of Mick.
